I wonder why all this is now happenning more often than before?.. Or is it just anti-plagiatrism software that has gotten more advanced? Or do the the academics feel more presure to make a buck at any cost

The 'oplichter mentaliteit' seems to have penetrated academic circles too (which is no surprise for me).

I really do prefer Germans. They are often crude and excessively strict, but at least honest.

then Holland can be a good place for you. The biggest problem is that if you are NOT like this Holland will be H*E*L*L* for you. There is not enough pluralism of opinion, not enough diversity in the Netherlands to accommodate people with differing views. If you don't fit you have no chance in this society. You can be a great person: smart, hard-working, kind and good-looking, but this society will throw you into the dust bin just because you eat hot meal more than once a day, or because in Dutch opinion you are...    less

But I have seen how Dutch men behave around Czech, Russian, Hungarian Brasilian etc. women - i. e. from countries where women are warm, kind, pleasant human beings, not robotic cows, like NL women. Oh baby, they do look, those poor bastards! They STARE, like morons, with saliva dripping from their mouths.

Lots of tall blond girls on bikes, bars that stay open all night...all that stuff. University cities in Holland are supposed to be liberal compared to the rest of the country.

Not sure whether Eindhoven is of the same kind. I visited it only once, and architecture is largely horrible concrete 1960-70 style, and their university is a technical one. The good thing is that this is South, and southern Dutch generally seem to be a bit more easygoing and relaxed.  less

This is nonsense, ouloveit1, and I think you know that. They do so because they have a policy prescribing them to do so. And why their bosses introduced such a policy? Because they want to be "like Germany and other countries" and "to protect Dutch culture".

One of the positive things about Dutch culture is pragmatism and wilingness to do whatever is necessary to facilitate reaching a common goal. Normally Dutch folks are pretty cool about this and use whatever language they can to get the message across. So by introducing this idiotic policy BD in fact goes against Ducth culture! Just another example of how national pride (or should I say national insecurity) is a bad advisor in business.

Even worse - they made a mistake and charged me road tax for a car that I've never owned. I called and complained using my best Dutch, and was told to write a letter of objection. I sent in a letter (mostly in English, with most important keywords spelled out in Dutch), but there was no reply for a month or so, and the collection agency started bothering me again. I called second time to find out what wasgoing on, and was told that since my letter wasn't in proper Dutch it won't be considered.

To be honest, this pissed me off. THEY make a mistake and  perfectly understand what my complaint was about, but would not correct the mistake because of the language issue. I think Belastingdienst is really taking it a bit too far these days.  less

He only said he undrstood why things are what they are, and there is nothing wrong about understanding a phenomenon. Ithink I also have my understanding of this fact (although rather different from his). Naturally he couldn't go without reciting the idiotic mantra loved by all European politicians these days - "multicultural society failed", but this is hardly a surprise.

The Dutch have brought in a large number of Turkish and Moroccan workers and call this  'multicultural society'. Resulting tensions are supposed to confirm that 'multicultural society failed'. What can be stupider than this?..  less
