in the topic can i pay at Albert Heijn with chip+pin credit card? in the forum Business and Finance in the Netherlands
    hi all,

basically, i've lived here in NL (amsterdam) for almost 1.5 years now, and i think it's time that i picked up a dutch credit card... especially the Flying Blue Amex or the Green Card.

my main question is whether i'll be able to use it at many places, for my daily expenses.

i know that the Albert Heijn accepts bank cards + pin, but does it accept dutch credit card (chip+pin)? what about other places, like museums or restaurants or fast-food places?

    any advice welcomed!

    Hey all,
I'm moving from one side of Amsterdam to another this weekend. I need a mover with a moving van. Do any of you have any recommendations? I will need an English-speaking service.

in the topic 1-2 bedroom apartment wanted, 7-12 month lease (dec 1st) in the forum Housing in the Netherlands
    hey expatica peoples,

    cheers,

    ------------------

    EUR1500 Dec 1st: 1-bedroom for 1200 inclusive, 2-bdrm for 1500 (15 min from the artis/pijp/Roetersstraat)

I'm a mild-mannered 33-year-old American bachelor ex-pat looking for an apartment, starting December 1st. My preference is a 7-month lease to begin (until July 1st), with possible extension. I can also certainly accept a 12-month lease.

I need at least a washer/dryer, dishwasher, and microwave. My budget is 1200 per month (inclusive) for a 1-bedroom, or 1500 per month (inclusive) for a 2-bedroom. I am happy with furnished/semi-furnished. I am NOT interested in paying a 1-month agency fee, above and beyond the 1200/1500.** For a 7-month lease, I am also open to an apartment share (800/month max inclusive).

Finally, since I am a universitair docent (assistant professor) at the University of Amsterdam, I'm interested mostly in an apartment within 15-minute bike/tram from the artis, pijp, *or* Roetersstraat/Sarphatistraat.

Please contact me via email if you have an apartment that satisfies the above. If the location/apartment is exceptional, I can possibly go beyond my current budget. I can certainly provide references, both from my landlord and my boss.

** However, if you are an agency and my costs fall within 1200/1500 per month after including your fee, I'll think about it.

in the topic Where in Amsterdam to get my bike "tuned-up"? in the forum Travel & Transport in the Netherlands
    Hi all,

I have a nice bicycle (specifically, a Dahon folding bike) that needs a tune-up. Something is squeaking when I pedal, and I also want to have the bicycle checked as a whole.

The Amsterdam Dahon retailer tells me that they're willing to tune-up my bike for 58 euro. That's expensive! Does anybody know of a reputable place in Amsterdam that is cheaper?

    Thanks in advance,
