Hi 

I have an 8 month contract starting in May, in Liege and I have to find somewhere to live.

I have lived in quite a few countries over the years (joy of freelancing) so I am pretty comfortable with moving on my own. But I am hearing a few horror stories about relocating to Liege (and belgium in general) So I am wonderng what options there are for me.

Would I be better off looking to live outside of Liege? perhaps even in Germany and commute every day? If I am a permi employee on a fixed term contract, would this have any impact on my taxes? I know they are bloody high (60% ish) Also, would this affect my employment at all?

I also heard that I would have to pay a penality for such a short rental period in Belgium,  Is this true?

I have a car, so dont mind driving for up to an hour to get to work.

I will be on my own (male, late 30's) , so I cant help but think Liege is not going to offer much interest in the evenings/weekends.

Any thoughts/advise would be gratefully recieved
