Nobody here is "anti-Obama", but so far his action / inaction is relatively unimpressive. Why do you have such a binary view of a very complex situation?

Sarah will fix nothing, and hopefully, she will quietly fade away. I expect that someone like Michael Bloomberg, Newt Gingrich, or Mitt Romney will be the candidate for the Republicans in 2012.

No, you're still here.

I expect that someone like Michael Bloomberg, Newt Gingrich, or Mitt Romney will be the candidate for the Republicans in 2012.

Michael Bloomberg – no way. The Republican’s hard-core religious right would never tolerate him.

a.) He’s pro-choice
b.) He’s pro gay marriage
c.) He’s pro gun control
d.) He’s Jewish.

Newt Gingrich – has the opposite problem. The hard-Right loves him, but main-stream America hates him. This is a guy who served divorce papers on his first wife while she was receiving cancer treatment.

He almost destroyed the Republican party in the 1998 mid-terms when the campaign he ran gave the Republicans the worst election result by any party that didn’t hold the Presidency in 64 years. A group of senior Republicans (Armey, DeLay, Boehner and Paxon) tried to have him thrown out of the Speaker’s chair, so bad was his public image at that time.

He was also the first Speaker in US history to be fined for ethics violations. $300,000 worth.

Mitt Romney Probably does have the best chance of getting the Repug nomination of these three, but he’s not exactly an inspiring character, and it’s difficult to see how he can patch together a coalition of voters to take on Obama. The Southern Baptists won’t vote for him because he’s a Mormon, the pro-lifers don’t like the fact that he’s flip-flopped on abortion. Etc etc.

So he could run, but I can’t see where he could find the support to take on Obama, whose ratings are holding up reasonably well, and will have a billion bucks to spend in 2012.

Still, the Dems wet-dream is that it will be Sarah ‘failin’ Palin, that runs against Obama. The he’ll just need to spend about $14.26.

I made no mention of Neocons, whatsoever.

I'm talking about the largely southern, evangelical-Right, wing of the Republican party. A survey of American Jews I read a couple of years ago listed the rise of Evangelical Christianity as one of the major causes of the rise of anti-Semitism in America. No Republican candidate could win a Presidential election without the support of Southern Baptists. Just as they couldn't win without the support of the largely Western 'small government' win of the party.

Agreed.
But how come I start to get cynical and suspicious when politicians start using it as a (populist) political tool?
Also,if its as bad as they would like us to beleive - we're doomed already anyway.

Are they going to impose huge fines on companies who cause environmental catastrophes ?
Probably not (re: Exxon Valdez)

Are they going to start making the airline industry pay tax on jetfuel ?
Probably not.

Are they going to start increase taxing on households with 2 cars or more?
Probably not.

Are they going to increase tax on cheap electrical equipment and appliances?
Probably not.

But they are very happy to harp on about how we the people have got to separate all our rubbish.
People should be insulating their homes anyway,even if its only to save money.

They had the everlasting,low-power lightbulb a long,long time ago but didn't want to sell it to us then.

I beleive there is already cheap,clean power...they'll probably come out with that as a miraculous cure in a few years time...then they can go on about how they have saved us all from the Global Warming Apocalypse.
They create a problem,scare people with it and then pretend they have brilliantly solved the problem and act like heroes.....(see The War on Terrorism-all those soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq are there for your safety folks!)

All those cameras spying on people are there for YOUR safety folks!

Could you compare debt to GDP or look at the credit default swaps outstanding against US debt and make a compelling argument?
