I have lived here with a verblijfvergunning document since 2006. What I am interested in finding out is how to avoid double taxation.
I have had to pay taxes here and in the US. As a retired military person I know that I have to pay taxes in the US, but it seems a tad strange that I have to pay them here as well and at a higher rate.
In particular I am concerned with having to pay the equivalent of Social Security here and Dutch Social insurance. In three years I will be receiving my US Social Security payments on a monthly basis.
How have you dealt with this? My wife and I are currently in talks with the Belastingdienst. I am trying to recoup what I have paid since 2006. It appears that my owning a house and living here as a retired US military person is an unusual event for the tax people here.
