  I am curious about the role and commission (fees)charged by realtors in Belgium. Are real estate agents motivated by the fees they receive (in the US, realtors receive 6-7% of the selling price from the seller)? I am interested in visiting Antwerp for a few days and looking at properties for sale, and I am thinking I should contact realtors to make appointments for me to see properties in my price range. Does that system work in Belgium or am I making some unreasonable assumptions?

  Same idea in Belgium, the seller pays the estate agent (Immo) a commission of the sale. Not sure of the percentage though. www.immoweb.be will give you a good idea of prices etc. Of course they will be delighted to arrange viewing appointments. Contact them in advance of your trip. And yes expect them to be as dumb as realtors in the US.

  The Realtor ensures that you are told about the correct market price that the house can be bought for. Any exaggerated quote would invariably propel the agent to tell you that the price is exaggerated and the property is simply not worthy enough of being paid for that much.Finding a reliable and trustworthy one however of course, is a different story since each real estate agent charges their clients with varying price with a 6% standard commission rate.
