British police ‘arrest Dutch man for Yeates murder’

British police have arrested a 32-year-old Dutch citizen, Vincent Tabak, for the murder of Joanna Yeates, according to British media.

Joanna Yeates, Mr Tabak's 25-year-old neighbour, was found dead on a country road outside Bristol in the west of England on Christmas Day, eight days after she went missing. The case has sparked a media frenzy in Great Britain.

Ms Yeates disappeared after going out with colleagues in the centre of Bristol on 17 December. Her body was found eight days later. Police say she was strangled but there was no suggestion of rape. However, they have not ruled out a sexual motive for the murder.

Mr Tabak lives with his English girlfriend in the Clifton area of Bristol and works at an architect’s practice in the city. Police have searched his flat but will not confirm that the Dutch national is indeed in custody.

Media interest
British media have followed the case with great interest as it turned from a disappearance into a murder investigation. For a long time, there was no clue as to who the murderer might be.

Public interest was whipped up as family and friends appealed for help in solving the mystery. A reconstruction of Ms Yeates' last known hours was staged on the BBC television programme, Crimewatch. After the show was aired, the police received more than 300 tips from members of the public.

Vincent Tabak Charged With Jo Yeates Murder

Detectives investigating the death of Joanna Yeates have charged 32-year-old Vincent Tabak with her murder.

The Dutch engineer, who was arrested on Thursday, will appear before Bristol magistrates on Monday accused of killing the 25-year-old.

Apparently, the first couple of years he was in the UK, it was a very hard time for him adjusting to life in England!!

Well, isn't that something! I hope he knows how it is for the expats who live in his country.
So why was it hard for him? was it because he found himself becoming regularly invited to the pubs/parties with people or even colleagues that he didn't know so well? (remember the Kring concept doesn't exist in Britain) or was it because he saw the immense choice in the supermarkets & shops in general? could have been homesick for Albert Heijn or was it the good & polite customer service that freaked him out?
Or it could have even been seeing a great choice of beers & Ales in the pubs? or maybe even he was given 4 biscuits instead of one with coffee round someones house!

Something freaked him out and made him kill, and we need to know!

Only Brits have the right to complain and find it hard to adjust? And of course when Brits find it hard to adjust in the Netherlands, it is the Dutch who are to blame. The other way, when Dutch find it hard to adjust in the UK then the Dutch are also to blame. Exactly the colonial attitude the rest of the word expects from a Brit.

Hope they've got the right guy...they've been under a lot of pressure for an arrest,and it wouldn't be the first time an arrest has been made just for the sake of arresting someone,wether they are guilty or not.

Apart from the fact that much of what you say in the above post is incorrect,I think its a bit sick,not to mention inconsiderate of you to make light of this.

No, but I am not making wild assumptions. I don't know whether he is guilty or not. I guess he will get a fair trial.
You merely thought this was an ideal opportunity to rant about something, while it had nothing to do at all with the topic.

Well, to be honest it's far too soon to assume he actually did it.
When I first read that he'd been arrested I was hoping it wasn't him, but despite what many think about the Dutch, people here are not crazy psychopathic killers, if anything they're a more passive & humble kind of folk.

The police were acting on a 'tip-off'.
He had very little contact with her.
DNA circumstantial?
The boyfriend was away.
Crime of passion ?

I'm not sure that all murderers always do fit the 'profile'. Like the rest of us, I don't know all about his background anyway... but I'm sure the truth will eventually come out.

Geert Wilders is one of the few good things about this country, it's Moroccan community isn't.

Holland is extraditing three Moroccan terrorists to Belgium, fortunately.

I'd say it was the other way round.I live in the moroccan community.How come in over 7 years I haven't witnessed any of the crime,violence,nastiness on the street (anti-islam crap) reported so avidly in the right wing media?
I'd much rather have moroccan neighbours than just one Geert Wilders. Before I moved to Amsterdam I had the misfortune of having Wilders mentality supporters as neighbours.They did thier utmost to make my life hell.They didn't succeed - I moved.
