I have question related to tax return for year 2008. I have started working from Nov 25th 2008. I have rec ived a form for tax filing during March 2009. The deadline to fill it was july 2009. I went to the tax office there the personal told me that it is not needed to file tax return for just two months. But now in the month of january I have received a letter from tx office that I have to file my tax return within a month.
Please let me know what I have to do.
Thanks in advance

if they tell you that you need to submit a return, well, you need to submit a return.
it is in you own interest to submit it. if you only worked for part of a year, chances are you were taxed as though you had worked for the full year, and as such, will be entitiled to a refund of overpaid tax as it is likely that your tax rate will be way too high.
if you need an extension in order to get your paperwork togehter or to organise a tax consultant, send them a letter requesting an extension. i have no idea if this will work for the 2008 return though. if you have your jaaropgaaf (yarly overview of earnings and deductions) it should be pretty simple to fill in the tax form.
