You see dogs in shops, shopping centres, trams everywhere really.Surely they poo in these places alot?Being from the UK i find it very strange that no one blinks an eye lid about it over here. You would never be allowed to take a dog into a shop in the UK.Today i seen an owner taking her dog up the escalator at mediamarkt

As a fellow Brit, but also an animal lover, I see your logic as being the same as "People have dogs in their houses! Surely they poo everywhere!"
No, they're trained not to poop inside. Same deal.

I was obviously brought up in an untrained household then as the two Yorkshire terriors that my adoptive family had shat many times in the house... and very often I'd get the blame as I was used as the dog walker, forgetting that they had three other children of their own, but it was always me that got told off!![]()
) but I, and most people who are caring for/owning a dog like that, would be too mortified to take them somewhere they'd possibly have an accident. korrok (Feb 15 2011, 11:46 PM) said: > original post
That does sound like a bad doggy experience. :/ Most dogs won't do it in the house unless REALLY pressed.
Of course, I used to do dog rescue and fostering, so I had my share of dogs that were totally untrained for that (requires a lot of patience) but I, and most people who are caring for/owning a dog like that, would be too mortified to take them somewhere they'd possibly have an accident.

I think, just like some people shouldn't have children, they shouldn't have animals... some people just don't have the patience.

Aside from doggy defecation, surely the local dolt population realizes a fair percentage of the population is allergic to their pet's dander? Surely ... ?
"Nou ja zeg..."

In certain countries dogs can be found even in the kitchens and restaurants...mind you they are usually in an oven or on a plate I suppose.

Let's not forget the Dutch restaurant housecat!
Personally, animals anywhere don't bug me. Prefer them to some humans, really.

No but dogs as pets are a typically Dutch phenomenon, mr. fook. You don't see it in other countries.

I like seeing cats in restaurants, gives a kind of quaint & cosy feel to the place, and cats are very clean animals.

I don't think Dutch having dogs is a 'typical Dutch phenomenon' at all. Now having seen absolutely NO stray dogs anywhere - now that is a Dutch phenomenon.

There are no sarcasm tag on expatica. It was mainly meant as a response to Bubbba's rant.

The only thing I don't like about dogs is when the owners let their pet loose in areas where they are not supposed to.

Yeah, like being on the fietspad chasing cyclists.
