Indian Stores in Amsterdam

This is a list of stores where you can goods that you miss in normal supermarkets.

I have heard from different expats living here that they miss a lot of things.
You might not get everything but definitely it could offer you a bit of different stuff in your kitchen.

thanks I am dying for some chutneys... do we get maggi noodles as well?

No Maggi
But there are the Unox ones "Good Noodles" that are pretty much the same, and some other brands.
Maybe check out a Toko or something if you're big on the instant noodles.

Guys.
San's Asian Supermarket, Srilankan Store (Dapperplein 36, 1093 GS AMSTERDAM, Phone 020-6943408) IS CLOSED NOW.

There is a notice board at the shop from Gemeente Amsterdam that shop owner didn't pay the TAX from long time so all the items at the shop will be sold out in a few days.

So its bad news for who is regular visitor at the shop.

This place no longer exists.

Went looking for it recently and found a fietswinkel in its place.

However, all is not lost!

Just around the corner, on Lindenlaan is a small parade of shops, one of which is an Asian/Eastern Speciality food store. It was closed this particular day (why did I bother go looking for a small neighbourhood shop on a Monday?), but looks worthy of investigation...

The shop in Lindenlaan is Toko Kashmir - a Indian Spice shop and It is closed on Mondays. But it is really good and has many things. He also sells Chicken Biryani and other stuff made at his shop

Toko Kashmir - thanks Spikygal. I have been in there a couple of times and it is well worth a visit. The people who own/run it could do with cheering up a bit, though. Each time I've been there the atmosphere is as if someone very close in the family has just died (which I sincerely hope was not the case).

Nonetheless, it's great to have such a shop nearby and we'll continue to visit.

Hahaha Journeyman, you are right about that. I have always wondered what doesnt feel right here.It is the dour look on their faces. Anyways, he is trying to expand his IN-shop Take-out food section.
Also, there is a new one in Karel Doormanweg called SPICE which is also ok. He has now opened a restaurant/take-out place next door to Taco Mundo and THE New York Pizza guy. The curries especially Prawn Madras was exceptional.
Let me know what you think if you go

Thanks again, Spikygal! Wasn't aware of that place at all, so will be getting on my fiets and paying them a visit in the very near future. Nice one.

I like the look of their website and hope they get it finished soon as it offers a lot of promise.

Thanks both of you! I've only seen Indonesian Tokos in my area and didn't know this shop existed. I'm not too far away and will certainly be testing the take-out food section. I really miss good Indian food since I left ... England

SPICE is pretty good, compared to some of the others, but it's a bit on the expensive side I think.

oh no, not toko kashmir. the indian food there is not at all good. try to get the food made for you for instance he makes fresh chicken biryani and samosas. other than that it basically old and stale. just my experience though, people opinion might differ

Please also check this latest website www.indiabazaaramsterdam.nl that offers everything from groceries to kingfisher beer to vegetables to Haldiram sweets to laddoos,jalebis and more. They also 'home deliver'.
This shop is located at Johan Huizingalaan190 1065 JJ Amsterdam.
The shop is easily accebile by bus ,metro ,tram .

The people are very hospitable and are very accommodating .
This store has everything Indian under its roof.Besides the prices are reasonable.
Try the experience.
