EXPAT CLUB: Bastogne, WWII Battlefields

Event Details

  • The town of Bastogne in Eastern Belgium lies on the cross roads of several important routes. Therefore it was a strategically important town throughout history. In the final winter of the Second World War it was the scene of extremely fierce battles between the Allies (especially Amerian forces) and Nazi Germany that tried to make a final push-back known as the Battle of the Bulge. We explore the excellent Bastogne War Museum and make a professionally guided tour along some of the major war memorials and sites, including the forest where American troops stayed for weeks to defend Bastogne, all in the most extreme winter conditions. Their story became especially known by the general public through Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks their crowned TV-series Band of Brothers.
