in the topic Working person and a dog... in the forum Pets in the Netherlands
..Does anyone out there manage to combine a full time job with a happy healthy dog?

I would dearly love to have a little dog (I grew up with them around), but I live alone and have a full time job. I want to know if it is possible to combine a happy dog and a job.

I was considering a mini Dachshund as a potential breed - not a puppy but finding a young adult.

I leave for work at 8:30 and am back somewhere between 5:30 and 7 depending on what is going on at work.

I live literally right next to the Vondelpark - so morning and evening walks are easy, and weekends would be a lot of fun.

All day is obviously too long to leave a doggy home alone; I work 20 minutes from my home, so my plan would be to come home to walk the dog for half an hour on some days during the week, and use a dog walking service on other days (living so close to the Vondelpark makes this very easy).

My party nights are not so frequent now, and I love dogs so evenings and weekends any dog would get a lot of attention.

Having grown up with dogs, I am well aware of the work/cost that comes attached. But being in my 30s I think I can handle the responsibility ;-)

Does anyone else have any expereince of a similar situation, or is this just unworkable?
