OK so what about if I expand the search area to anywhere on the 142,170 or 172 bus routes Amstelveen side of say Muntplein ?
Is it possible to rent in Ouderkerk for example ?
My main things are the cost, must be quiet location but be accessible walk to supermarket, be on one of the bus/metro routes stated, and be able to transfer UPC TV/BB/Phone over to. Balcony or roof terrace also pretty much essential.
Knows anyone of such places in any of these locations ?... more

Moving from North Side

Hi All

I have to move from the North Side of the Ij soon, and what I am looking for is something closer to Amstelveen - ideally on either Bus 300, Metro 51 or Tram 5 routes (or within short walk), but I am also looking not to pay much more than I am currently (I have all-inclusive gas, water, electric), which allows me to transfer my UPC BB/TV/Telephone, and which is still going to give me the peace and quiet I enjoy currently. I a really looking for recommendations on areas I could look in - maybe Amstelveen - looking to pay up to 1,100 per month for exclusive apartment. I have ruled out anywhere near Leidseplein or Central Amsterdam. I don't mind a couple of bars and some shopping in the form of a supermarket, but do NOT want to be in a noisy, studenty area.

OK havbe just found a reason to get a Dutch account. Paying rent - there is no facility (yet) to set up international transfers through Ulster bank via Internet/Phone banking, so will have to have a Dutch account for this until they do set this up.

- vrrrespa maybe things changed but a few years ago I had to pay transfer costs using my german bankaccount. Ofcourse using my VISA card caused no costs but it's not always possible to use a VISA / MASTERCRD

So if the company are prepared to pay directly into my Irish account (using Swift/IBAN), there is really no advantage in me having a Dutch account other than the speed of access to my salary ?

Hi all - new here so hope this is approriate post here.

I am shortly to start a 3-6 month contract in Amsterdam from my home base in Dublin. What I need advice on is whether to get a Dutch Bank account, or to just keep my Irish account. The advantage of keeping Irish account is that all my money is in one place, and Direct Debits etc will be covered. The disadvantage is that it could take around 5 days longer before the funds are available, and I don't know yet if this will cost me. Is there any issue using Irish Debit card to pay or extract money in Netherlands ?
