Yeah I finally managed to get out of there it took my Dutchie a while to realise what that guy was doing but when he did he got us out pretty fast. That has made things alot easier than they were. They are no longer friends after what happened too i think my Dutchie realised a friend doesn't act like that.  less

Learning Dutch but struggling with a block.
    Hi There,

I am currently learning Dutch in a course paid for by my work to help us settle better in the Netherlands because it is an International company it really helps. The problem I am having is i have now had 9 lessons which is great and i am the only one in my class to attend all and do all the homework set for us. Unfortunatly I seem to struggle with speaking when i first came to the Netherlands nearly 2 years ago and Prior to coming i tried to learn dutch at home which i managed to learn a few basics but my boyfriend (early on in our relationship) laughed at me attempting which has stuck although now i am here he wont laugh anymore. His mate we used to live with also Laughed at me everytime i attempted  my dutch speaking he would laugh from the other room.

OMG i'm offended since when does being British make you like that? And you say he is being Elitist but so or you generalising the British.

I personal dont mind how people live their lives as long as they dont go telling me how to live mine. I live a mixed life of dutch and british because my partner is dutch ofc, so just so you know not all british are like that so dont generalise please its not nice.  less

Thank you we spoke to that agency and the seemed like one of the few that really wanted to help. We found somewhere for now its £900 inclusive for a 1 bedroom a little steep but it is a nicely done out place so we cant complain. Maybe in a year we will think about going to a new place to stay but i would use them again. Thanks for the suggestion.  less

Screw 'em. They are the ones who whinged "Don't you speak Dutch YEEEEET????" who, during those birthday circles, refused to repeat what they said to me in Dutch when I'd say 'pardon?', and shunned me the rest of the evening, wouldn't help me learn at all, and even had the gall to complain that I "refused" to use Dutch on Facebook (which I use to keep in contact with my son and friends and family back in Canada!). Yep, I've met some real winners here. It's all about them. But fortunately, we've also discovered who our REAL friends are too. It's taken Dutchie by surprise who has stood by us and who hasn't, but at least we know now.

I guess this is from fear of the above happening again so it all just blocks and i am unsure how to stop it or get passed it.

i am hoping there is someone who can maybe help that may have had a simular problem, I haven't given up and keep going to class, can anyone help or make any suggestions with this?

I have asked my boyfriend to help me and he has said he will sit with me of a weekend but during the week he is to tired and when i go to the shops even if i try speaking dutch they hear my accent i guess and suddenly revert to english so that doesn't help either. I love learning dutch but this seems to hold me back sadly.

Any suggestions welcome, and sorry for the essay.

I fi remember right i googled "accounts Payable jobs in the Netherlands" litterally on a regular basis while i was looking :)
