In whatever way you look at it, Amsterdam is a very expensive place to live in.
The housing is far more expensive than say in the province of Groningen.
For example, for the price of a simple two bedroom apartment in Amsterdam, you will get a detached two- or three-storey home in the province of Groningen.
Also the price difference between similar homes in the east of the country and just a few kilometres across the border with Germany is about 50%.

i think this explains why the dutch spend their holidays in the lowest places of the mediterranean, crowded beaches, while english and germans manage to stay in villas and hotels

well i heard German unemployed get enough money from tythe state to even travel abroad. But many are moving to Switzerland cause there they earn 3 times as much as in Germany. But I dont know if Switzerland has the same tax problems as Holland which would make life harder
