I don't know what kind of gyn exam you mean, but if it's just a pap smear then you wouldn't need to be a specialist to do it. I think gynaecologists went and got specialist qualifications so they can deal with the difficult cases and not spend their day doing things which a registered nurse (your 'office assistant', possibly) can do. What is not possible here (and in other countries) is for people to go direct to specialists without a referral - this saves wasting their time and your money. I have more experience with the Dutch health system than I would like (my wife is in a Dutch hospital now), and I find it to be excellent.
@rh_nl: A Woman going to see a Gynaecologist for any health exams is her choice, this response coming from a man LOL open your mouth about female health once you grow a uterus, Gyn docs are trained to perform these exams specifically. the assistants at our doctors office can not handle a single piece of paper for a referral given 3 weeks there is No Way in Hell i would let...    less

LOL i was there today at our little local c1000 and all the words in this forum thread filled my head while i queued up, yes chuckling to myself.
And i realized i have developed a personal protection protocol, i always stand a good 2 person length behind the person ahead of me to avoid bumping, and since my dear well meaning mother in law gave me the wonderful handlebar mounted shopping basket i hold this behind me to prevent the person coming up behind me from bumping also. And yeah mostly there is that little divider but if not i need to get them and put them before and after my groceries. I am wild i grab them from the other check out band across from me which is closed. Yes i always line up in the kassa line next to the close register, again Lower Bumping ratio or at least one would hope.
I do manuever around the shop going down empty isles when i can to avoid the shoppers who look as if they just landed on earth and are in shock and amazement not realizing others need get past and shop and wander in the mi...    less

As i mention there are health care protocols established to prevent the spread of germs viruses bacteria and the like. The young and old are the most at risk population for infections. When any person contracts an infection their immune system is then compromised putting them at higher risk for more serious secondary infections. The health care protocols are in place to prevent the spread of this very situation.
The use of hand sanitizer which is on par with the effects of soap but used in situations where soap washing is not possible. The same as cleaning with a dissinfectant again to reduce the spread.
You are right colds happen but health care professionals establish these protocols to be used in group settings for a very good purpose. Viruses last 7-10 days, so for every illness contracted my son looses 7-10 days of school. This is my main reason for my desire to have schools here in dutchwonderland implement health care protocols to improve school performance.

Ever see a news report about a girl having a freak out in a supermarket that might be me after getting knocked into several times on the wrong day in the supermarket.
Good luck out there. And yes i know there are ignorant people all over the planet, however the Dutch seem to have their own special home grown brand in never ending supply.
Also the same crap that drives me nuts the first month i got here still bugs me today, the shopping trips where nothing happens are the rare joys of life here in Dutchwonderland.  less

No Protocols for Colds/Flu but Lice checks all the time
So now my little 5 yr old son is on his 3rd cold of the season. He re-started group 1 this august school year  with a new location and teachers its going well Except:

He keeps catching every single cold from his class then of course spreads it around our home. As we get to hang out with the little ones for 15 mins each morning to get them settled i see: No tissues available for little ones, no soap or hand sanitizer either. No instruction from the Teacher to cough or sneeze into your elbow so as not to cover your hands with germs.

Yet each school i have encountered (6 to date) while living here in Dutchwonderland has very vigilant Lice Checks.
I wish that health protocols were followed for kids to prevent the spread of these viruses that can have very serious negative health impacts unlike the Lice they seem so hoping to prevent the spread of.

last year when we started our 4 yr old at his brothers OBS school De Linde there was no mention of he needs to go to a dutch language school first. Only after complaining over the horrid experience with mean teacher did they string us along for 9 months then insist on this. I know i felt that ok this is my american ideals/culture clash. So we spoke to all the parents of the class mates of our older son all know this Teacher. We could find No One who had a nice thing to say about her. Everyone we spoke to around 10 parents we know said oh yeah Her! Also my son happily wanted to enter class when it was the Young student teacher they have on thursday & friday. This showed me that the issued along with a language barrier that her behaviour and treatment where a root cause for all this drama.
