Hi yankeeneurope,
I am a foreigner and living in Germany right now. I agree what Manuel del Vol said "Ignore the people who give you dirty looks and those who are openly rude (and yes, you will come across a few) - They're not people you want to know anyway and there are plenty of other people who will accept you - particularly if you try to accept them" That is quite true what I am facing.
English is not common in Germany, if you don't know the language, you will feel quite alone, not so easy to find some friends.
Besides, I would like to remind you if you plan to married in Germany, you need to get approve from court by married dept in Germany and submit a lot of documents eg Passport, Org. Birth certificate, certificate to proof your are signle. If married & divorce before, you need to submit completed divorce paper and old married certificate. All doucments must certified translated into German. It takes min 3 months to proceed, court charge depends on your ex-salary.
You also need to consider how many chance for you to find a job in here. No matter how good edcated peoples like my man. He has Master Degree "Msc" and he was a Director in Asia.. When we back to Germany, he is difficult and take long time to find a job. Recently, he got it but not so good offer as before.
Hope this info. can help you to prepare yourself to come to Germany !
