Hi!
I am a graduate student at Washington State University, and am conducting a research project about the communication styles of female expatriate managers. My interest stems from being a trailing spouse to a military person. I’m interested in understanding female employees’ experiences as they negotiate their overseas transitions. May I interview you? Or would you consider responding to my questions in a survey format? See questions and consent form below. Please email your responses to jscott5@wsu.edu or jscott922@yahoo.com.
I have Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval from my university. Per those requirements, your name will not be attached to your responses. Pseudonyms will be used. Others will only see the data in summary form (that is, a summary of everyone who participates) or as selected comments without your name attached.
Interview Protocol
1. Please tell me about your job.
2. Please walk me through the process of what you do in your job.
3. Did you spend any time overseas as a child, or study abroad in high school or college?
4. At what point in your career did you decide to pursue a position abroad?
5. What factors did you consider in your decision process? Dual-career household? Ages of children or their grade-level in school? Any special considerations?
6. What steps did you take to be selected for an expatriate position? Discussions with family? Discussions with boss?
7. What were your challenges in being selected for an expatriate position? What have been the rewards?
8. What advice would you offer to a woman considering an expatriate position?
9. Is there any information that we have not covered?
I need to know some demographics so that I can make comparisons:

3. Location
4. Race/Ethnicity
5. Married/Single, Number of Children, Ages
6. Education Level Completed
