Hi everyone!

So, I've lived here in Antwerp for a year now and have had absolutely no success finding a job. I've gone to interim agencies, OCMW etc... I'm looking for ANY advice, ideas or wisdom...

here are my stats: I'm an (English speaking) American, but I do speak decent Flemish. I can work during the week or weekend and I'm very flexible. In the states I most recently worked as a writer and journalist, in an Elementary School and I also have a lot of experience in office jobs and in the insurance field.

To be honest, at this point I'd do almost anything! help please!

Well, all I can say is good luck. After nearly two years in the country, my wife and I have... precisely... no friends that we socialize with on a regular basis.

It's not language, since we speak fluent English, French and Dutch. After trying for a year, we gave up and don't bother. We're thankfully only here for another 12-18 months and just go back up to Amsterdam for socializing and going out.

This may just be Brussels, though, and mayeb Antwerp has better chances.

sadly, i think you're 100% right. what i've realize is that it just isn't "normal" here to socialize in the way i'm used to (backyard bbq's, friends dropping by all the time etc.) My husband and i are considering going back to cali.

Do you know if Belgium has play areas like Gymboree or anything similar? Do these exist or am I limited to the park?

darn! well, i haven't discovered anything like gymboree...but there are some wonderful parks in antwerp! i think parks are "the thing".
