    This is not double voting. Election officials keep close track of all ballots mailed and received. If your official ballot arrives before the deadline (usually Election Day) it will be counted and the write-in will be discarded.
    Otherwise the write-in is your insurance policy, ensuring that your vote will be counted regardless of what happens to the official ballot.  less

    So if you haven't received your absentee ballot, don't wait a minute longer. Vote using the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot, which is available as a download from the Federal Voting Assistance Program website http://fvap.gov
    This emergency write-in ballot is always available so overseas Americans never have to miss an election for lack of a ballot.*
    *Note that in most states, you must file an overseas absentee ballot request (the "Federal Post Card Application") in the election year to be qualified to use the write-in ballot. So file a request every calendar year!
