New in Amsterdam from Atlanta. Also, have two ?s for you
Hi all, hello from a new expat in Amsterdam! My husband and I moved for work from Atlanta, GA. I'm in finance (staffing industry) and he's in technology (telecom industry).

We have been here for two short weeks and it's almost starting to feel like home. We've passed a few milestones: buying our first bike from Marktplaats, getting bank accounts, pin cards, and OV-chipcards, plus celebrating our first NYE. I've now managed to get through the checkout at Albert Heijn without speaking English!

The hardest things we've had to do so far were: program our Dutch thermostat off of an inhumane 15 degrees and (relatedly) find a place to buy a blanket (not a duvet). After purchasing a 160 euro blanket at Bijenkorf (no it's not wifi enabled or woven with gold fibers), I now have learned about wehkampf and am much the wiser!

So far, there are two main burning questions that I am hoping the expatica community can help with.

First, we would love to find someone trustworthy to help with laundry, dusting, and routine cleaning weekly. I might be asking for the world here, but can any of you give me a referral for someone or a company that you trust? We are located in the Centrum/Jordaan area.

Second, none of the drug stores here seem to carry saline solution (used for contact lenses), only multipurpose solutions. Any ideas from fellow US expats where to find simple saline solution?

Cheers and a Gelukkig Nieuwjaar to all.
