    Just wanted to share our moving experience, to provide information to others looking for a company to ship their household goods to the Netherlands. In short, we experienced the following:
    1) delivery to our new home was delayed 2+ weeks because Transpac (the removal company in the Netherlands that Chicago-based HK Worldwide Moving contracts with for deliveries to the Netherlands) failed to contact us when the shipment reached the port in Rotterdam;
    2) the few items that were carrier-packed were damaged in transit;

    I have an offer to move to Amsterdam in January with my wife and 2 boys (2 and 4 years old). I have some questions regarding finding schools/nanny.
     
    1) We are considering AICS and SKON (the day care service at AICS). Both places seem to have openings right now (or at least did last week). Who has had experiences with waiting lists at these types of schools? Should we apply to make sure we get in because there is no gurantee later? Our challenge is that we wanted our son to start kindergarden next September and if he starts at AICS in January it will leave him less time with my wife during the day which was part of the justification for moving. So basically question is - act now and get in because he can at 4 or take chances later on?
    2) Some friends of ours in Amsterdam take their kids to Dutch Montessory schools. We are very interested in that but are worried about language. None of our children speaks Dutch and it may be hard for them to learn and then adapt if we come back to the US. Any...    less
