Is it quite easy to manage as a south Indian vegetarian in any part of Netherlands, or is Amsterdam the best?
I might be coming to NL for a job...I want to know is it possible to get basmati rice, toor dahl, urad dhal, curry leaves, green chillies (V. IMPT!!), channa dahl, tamarind, fresh ginger, fresh coriander (VERY important to me!!) and other basic spices used in Indian cooking. Eg. mustard seeds, geera, pepper, asoefodita, chilli powder, dhania seeds and dhania powder, fenugreek etc. Very specific but this is all stuff I can get in the UK, so I would be very happy if it is all available in holland, so I don't have fill a suitcase of food from the UK every trip.
My main worry is the food issue. Many people have said on the UK forum and friends of mine also said, that the supermarkets are rubbish in NL. What exactly do people mean by this? Not enough brands? If so, this is not a problem for me as I make all my own sauces myself anyway and don't eat much processed food. I cook a lot though, and need to know - do the regular supermarkets stock a good selection of fresh vegetables?
What is the main problem? Is it the opening hours in NL? Or the selection, or something else?
How are you Indians all managing?
Thanks in advance for your replies. Hope to see you in NL. xxxx
