We don't have to plan 2 months in advance, we can hang out at someone's place, chill with some beers, maybe play scrabble, watch arrested development or the daily show, do orgami with wine lips, start a band for fun, have a potluck, talk about funny things like r.kelly's trapped in the closet, exchange music, or talk about serious things like sad childhood memories or feeling lonely here, just be ourselves with no need for structured small talk,
or go out, have drinks at a local pub with good music, dance for fun and not for cool, sit outside in the sun, have a picnic with a really ripe sweet mango for dessert, take pictures, lounge, loiter, root through things at the thrift store, coffee shop with sketchbooks/laptops/crosswords,
just wondering who is out there that is not trying to "network" for a job or is busy with their kids or is busy finishing their undergrad and lives nearby!
**would like to add that kids/studying/whatever is actually okay, basically let's just meet up for a laugh!**
Hi Ladies,
I am also new here. I was a social butterfly back in Vancouver. My husband has lots of family and friends here, but I need to find my own friends.
I have a 4 months old baby, so I am super busy. I am worried my baby will have Language delay, since there are no other English speaking babies around.
anyways, I live near by Dordrecht/Rotterdam. I would like to meet new friends.
Hi all,
My name is Denisea and i'm originally from califronia, recently moved to Dordrecht(my gf's hometown) near rotterdam. We are looking for some chill people to hang out and go out with etc.
we like coffee, dancing, bars, clubs, movies, camping, traveling, and playing music!
add me if interested in gaining some awesome friends ;)
Hi all!
I just moved here 3 months ago with my dutchie fiance and our 13 month old son. The home sickness is starting to hit me pretty hard now and boy do i miss all those things you all have been discussing! Just being able to have a fluent conversation with someone and laugh and joke. I'm only 24 and really miss my social life and friends.
We live in a small town in Noord- brabant called Deurne...near Eindhoven which is pretty much pure dutch society. I'm the only American i think here so it's proving to be difficult meeting people i can just hang out with. Right now the only people i talk to are my fiance, baby, and fiance's family. I'm really craving something for myself. My fiance works all day so it's just me and my son hanging out. I need something to keep me occupied so i can stop feeling like a stranger and start integrating.
If anyone lives around the Einhoven area and wants to grab a cup of coffee let me know, i'm freeee! lol.
Hey, great thread! I can't say I miss all those things yet, which is probably good because I just got here. If anyone wants to get together for a beer or to listen to some music let's do it. I also like to cook and will gladly have friends over for dinner. I live in Arkel right now but can take the train to meet new friends for a cup of coffee or a drink. I've also joined the Utrecht Book Club so if you're in that see you soon. I'm from California and love to travel (I guess we all do or we wouldn't be here!). I also love books, writing, riding a bike and listening to my Laura Speaks Dutch podcast, making potato pancakes, laughing, peeling oranges and smelling flowers. You can message me or look me up on facebook through my email arcticmelissa[at]gmail[.]com.

Hi Denisea,
Where are you from in CA? My wife and I live in AMS and we are also from CA.
hey"all!
I just joined this website and I was just thinking: has there been a reunion (borrel) of some sort yet..? and, would anyone be up for it..? It requires some planning, I know ;) but, it could be a lot of fun as well!
since everyone is in different parts of the country, maybe we can split up and organise something in different regions? just thinking..
now, let me know what you think!

I am not 'new' to Rotterdam, I have been here on an off since 2009. My partner and I are just now settling into our new home. We have decided to stay here and try to start a life now; after two years of traveling Australia/New Zealand, the US and the Netherlands. If anyone would like to meet up for some coffee or maybe a jog sometime in Rotterdam let me know :) I am a personal fitness trainer by trade who loves sport but also enjoys a good cup of coffee and great conversation!
Hi!
First off, I am replying to you through this thread cause I saw your interest in sports and wanted to send you and your partner an invite. Just could not figure out how to find a way to do that without going into this chat to hit "click reply".
In any case, I play for an international footy team of women, we are total amateurs, enjoy socialising and hanging out. On 22nd April there will be an open invitation, feel free to pop by and participate. The team consists of people from all over, and it's a nice mix of characters.
The website: https://www.facebook.com/events/236096376488463/
And the other website: ladiesinternationalfootball.nl
Good luck with your new place, hope to meet you on 22nd! Vicky
