Dutch passport applic.after ceremony.How long can I wait?

Hello All,

I have recieved the letter to attend the naturalisatie ceremony , and my question is that " how long can i wait before applying for the passport ? ".

The reason I am asking this, becasue I have to be travelling for work the very next day after the ceremony and it might take around 1 - 2 months to come back.

Is there any problem if I apply for passport 2 months after ceremony ?

Anyone with a similar experience or familiar with this situation can give their feedback.

Congrats on your naturalization!

Do you have to give up the citizenship of your native country? If so, you might have to surrender your passport at the ceremony. (I was able to have dual citizenship so I don't know for sure at what point you'd have to surrender your old passport.)

If you then have to fly off for business, you might find yourself without a passport.

You're not required to have a Dutch passport, but you do need at least a Dutch identity card. I think you're supposed to apply for an identity card as soon as possible. But you could still use your verblijfsvergunning card before you get the passport and/or identity card, as long as it hasn't expired.

I have indian passport and I guess i have to give it up eventually, but for sure not at the ceremony.

My question was mainly based.. on how much time I can buy before I can apply for ducth passport ?

As per the letter states.. I can apply for passport only after 5 days after ceremony, but it does not mentions.. how long can i extend it to.. as my situation.. i can only apply afiter 1 -2 months later.

thats all i wanted to know.. can I wait for 2 months before i can apply for passport.. or is it going to be too late?

Any comments?

it depends on when your verblijfsvergunning expires.

you dont have to surrender ur old passport at citizenship ceremony... lolllllllllllllllllllllllllll

How did your Indian passport work after you've been offically a Dutch? Did you get problem on Netherlands boarder? Did your dutch resident permit still work when dutch system recoganize you as a dutch citizen?

Could you get us some updates about being a Dutch but traveling with your Indian passport and Dutch resident permit?

I am asking because I gonna to face the similiar situtation.

I will very appreciate if you may enlighten me on that!

Hello alien1.
Till the time u don't surrender ( renounce ) your Indian passport at Indian embassy , but still have attended the dutch naturalization ceremony. You are free to travel with ur indian passport and dutch resident permit.

I had the same problem , coz the day after I attended my dutch naturlisation ceremony, I had to travel for official purpose , so my indian passport with a valid country of visit visa and ducth resident permit was enough.

Dont try or bother calling IND coz u will never ever get an asnwer on this sitution.

So conclusion:-

As long as u have Indian passport with valid dutch resident permit and u have attended dutch ceremony. U can travel till the time u personally go to Gementee and apply for dutch passport.

What I concern is to re-enter the Netherlands when I have my resident permit and mother country's passport. coz I doubt if the Dutch computes system is changed my status from permanent resident permit hold to dutch citizen, which I guess automatically makes the resident permit invalid.

I had unpleasant experience with dutch customer in the past. They do make troubles to people.

So, the question again to you, chakdeIndia, how long after your ceremony did you return to netherlands with dutch permit and indian passport?

Is it possible to travel with my permanent resident permit eve after half year after my oath ceremony? I do need sometime to clear out things in my home country of that I do not want to get visa due to change to hold dutch passport.
Anyway to get around the problem?

Hi ChakdeInda,
One more question about the documents that you need to provide to exchang/collect your Dutch passport.
Do you have to go to Indian embassy to get an offical letter to prove that you've given up your indian nationality? Were you asked such indian embassy proof to collect your dutch passport?

Well, I am not in Holland at moment. It also explains why i am more concerned about the timing and being offical blocked out by the embassy/my current citizenship.

I was also out of Netherlands for nearly 2 months after attending my dutch ceremony... so as long as u have a valid resident permit, i will not get all stressed out.

Coz technically speaking.. being ducth citizen ( i.e by taking oath) doesn't force u to get dutch passport , which is for travelling purpose. Many dutch nationals here also do not have passport.

I have been in same situation as u r rite now .. but i will not dissolve myself too much into it ..
