Dutch prosecutors seek 20 years for accused paedophile
Dutch prosecutors demanded a 20-year sentence Thursday for a former creche worker who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing dozens of children and making and distributing child pornography.
The man, identified only as Robert M., is a 28-year-old Dutchman of Latvian decent. He worked in several creches between 2007 and 2010. He also worked as a babysitter from 2009.
The defendant was arrested December 7 and pleaded guilty at his trial this month. Prosecutors said he abused 67 children and produced and disseminated child pornography.
His husband, a 39-year-old Dutchman, is accused of possessing child pornography and faces a possible 12-year sentence. Gay marriage is legal in the Netherlands.
Much of the trial has been held behind closed doors. Defence pleadings for a lesser sentence are due to start next week.
The lack of justice is disgusting for children living in the Netherlands. They are only seeking 20 years of jail time for someone who has been convicted of abusing 67 children!!!
Do the maths: 20 years = 240 months / 67 children = 3.5 months for each child abused. If child abuse is normally subject to a 12-year sentence the amount of time in jail should be 67 children x 12 years = 804 years!
This scum has admitted to abusing 87 children with an average age of just eight months. If I were a parent of one of these children I would feel that my country did not even consider the pain and injury involved and that there is no justice or protection for their children.
This amount of jail time will make any parent feel that their children will not be safe if this person is ever free. Even if this person is then confined to a psychiatric prison for treatment, there are no guarantees that they will not be on the streets again.
Clearly this will teach other paedophiles that they may as well abuse/injure as many children as possible, because the punishment does not fit the crime to each individual and family.
