Minister Leers must take into account the plight of foreign born parents of Dutch children. I, being an American father of 2 Dutch children am not allowed to be with my children and live like any normal Dutch father can live. I have no rights! I feel it to be so immoral to forcibly seperate Dutch children from their foreign born parents. Do you realize that this policy not only hurts me but my children as well? Why should either of us be punished but to punish my beloved kids because of their father is not Dutch is a VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS!!
I would appreciate anyone's opinion on this. I would also appreciate any support I can receive from ANYONE in the Netherlands who can assist me in reuniting with my Dutch children.
Here is a link to the recent article about a pending "crackdown" on illegal immigration:

As an American citizen, you might be able to get a residence permit here to be self-employed under the Dutch American Friendship Treaty. If you aren't able to be self-employed, you could look for a job as a highly skilled migrant. Then you could live in NL and be with your children.

you are taking the article completely out of context. This has nothing to do with american parents per se. Quoted directly from the article;
"mainly illegal immigrants involved in crime or those endangering public safety who have been arrested."
If you are an american, you can get a residents permit for 6 months right off the bat. If you are a highly skilled migrant then you can get one for longer. If you start your own business of any kind, you can get one for up to 3 years.

Americans can visit NL under a tourist visa for up to 90 days out of every 180 day period. But I don't know of any residence permit for 6 months that Americans are entitled to right off the bat. Most of our American clients are here for self-employment under DAFT, working as skilled migrants, or staying with a Dutch partner, and all their permits are issued for one year.
