I am a U.S. federal employee, planning to retire in one or two years.
U.S. federal employees are able to carry their private health insurance with them into retirement, and at the same cost and coverage as currently employed federal employees.
I cannot seem to get an answer, though, if I would lose my health insurance coverage should I choose to retire abroad.
My health insurance provider, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, claimed not to know about international coverage for expats. Their only suggestion was that I contact the Office of Personnel Management, and hope for a reply.
If anyone on this list is a retired U.S. federal employee, and has retired abroad, perhaps you could share your advice and experience with regard to health insurance for U.S. federal employees.
Thanks.
