Yes, and we don't have to be so specific. This is not a Dutch class folks. 
It is enough that we have an´understanding´. Echtgenoot (male) or Echtgenote (female) .. basically amounts to the same thing which is that you are not a KM worker (Kennismigrant), you are a... 'spouse'.
That is the point of this discussion.
