Like to meet English speaking people in or near Karlsruhe

Hi everybody,

my fiancé, 39 years old, moved from Wales, UK, to Germany, Karlsruhe here approx. 10 months ago to start a new life with me.

As he has only got a part time job at the moment, he feels a bit lonely through the day, obviously still being a bit homesick and finds it difficult to make friends, especially with the language barrier.

Are there any couples who feel the same and like to meet up at the weekends to make some new friends here and exchange how the first few months of relocating have been?

It's great to hear from you sooooo quickly. I originally come from Sheffield, then moved to Cheshire, then London, then Cambridgeshire.

I am the same case like you gals We are re-location back to Germany with my German friend boy but now he is my hushand since end of last year. I'm leaving here since early of last year. I am feel quite alone at home all day long and nothing to do.

Do you mind that I join to talk only, I think I can not meet you gals nearby karlsruhu cos I am not leaving in there, it is very far away.

Hi Rachael,

I am came from HK and living in Erfurt. I think I can"t meet you gals in Karlruha becuase my Hk driving license can't exchange in to German one.

Do you have any idea which I can swap my driving license into German one. As I know I can go to UK to swap it but not sure whether sucessful or not becuase I am not the residence there. If I borrow the uk address from my friend and register as a residence. Is it possible to do so? Can you give some advise ?

Hi there

I really can't give you very much advice I'm afraid, because my circumstances are a little different. If you're going to register in germany anyway, why don't you go to the townhall 'Rathaus' and ask them what you can do. They're normally pretty good. Maybe there's a good internet site that will give you the information. I wish I could help you more, but I don't want to give you any false information. I go to Hong Kong alot, and stay at Causeway Bay. I was actually there in January and visited Lantau Island. It's a lovely place. I'm not sure where Erfurt is, where's the nearest big town?

Thinking about your driving license again, maybe you will have to take a driving test in germany, to obtain a german license. Good luck and if you want to email me my email address is rachelg.harrison@yahoo.co.uk

Dear Rachel,

Thanks very much for your reply. I am glad to know have such nice lady in Germany that I never meet.

My hushand was contacted the transportation dept in Germany several times. All of them replied that the Hong Kong driving license can't convert to German one, I must have a written test and driving test but no need to go to the driving school that proceeure I could skip it. He was question they why the German driving license holders are entitled to convert in HK only, why I cannot get the same benifit in here which is not equal for the HK people. Honesty, the people who's working in the government dept are not really kind and nice that what I had for the past one year.

Causeway Bay is my favor area, I was living in Tai Hang before and you?
But Hong Kong is too small, too crowded everywhere and too hot.

Nearly all my staff speak english and we are open every night from 5 PM.

My husband who is from London and I have just moved from Ireland with our three children and another on the way. We are living in Muhlhausen and have still to meet very many people. I have met some through the kindergarten but my husband I think will find it more difficult.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and we are getting ready to relocate from Bremen to Karlsruhe. My husband is German and I am American and we have two children (3.5 and 6 months). I am looking forward to meeting some nice english speaking people in the area, too. We've been really lucky to have a good english speaking community in Bremen and I hope it will also be just as nice in Karlsruhe, too.

Thanks for your reply. It's funny, but we were previously located in Eindhoven before moving to Bremen, so we have some experience in the Netherlands too. My husband says that we are doing a slow tour of Europe with his work, although he promises Karlsruhe is the last stop!

Anyway, we are not yet relocated down to Karlsruhe. We are looking for a house at the moment, which is not so easy. It's looks like it will be a few months more, but I am looking forward to meeting you once we are there.
