  My wife and myself are coming to Spain on a viewing trip in the next couple of weeks, We are looking to purchase a property to use for holidays and short breaks initialy, before retiring to Spain in 3 years time Could any ex pats out there steer us in the right direction to avoid some of the pitfalls that seem to occur, We are considering the area of Mazzeron and Puerto Mazzeron in the Murcia region on the Costa Calida.
  Any info would be gratefully received

  I can help you with viewing trips, as many people have been on them and found them quite stressful. The salesman is there to sell you a house and they will do what they can to get you to commit whilst you are there.
  
  1.
  Don't feel under an obligation to buy something there unless you are 100% sure. Most people come here time and time again before making a decision.
  
  2.
  If you do decide you want something, come back to the UK for a cooling off period ..... Don't be put off by ... "well the offer might not be there tomorrow". They want to sell to you ... It will be there!
  
  3.
  Don't use their in house or friendly abogado ..... find one from recommendation and preferably in another town to where you are buying.
  
  Don't know the areas you are looking at I'm afraid but if you google Puerto Mazarron you'd be suprised what you come up with

  Many thanks for the prompt reply, I will take your advice on board when we come over, Do you or anyone you trust know a reputable Abagado who would be willing to represent our interests when we do make a purchase? I would be interested in contacting them. 8)

  Well it really depends on what area you are moving to. I would wait until you have chosen a place and then look for recommendations. If you were in the Oliva / Gandia area then I could recommend someone

  Wow thats quite a suprise, considering the prices they advertise seem so cheap on TV. However I guess there are all kinds of add ons.
  
  I heard they also make you use their in house abogado (solicitor), which is always a bad idea

  Whilst I wouldn't buy through Atlas they do not add onto prices. When you go into the showhomes the prices are usually posted up on a board for all to see. What some people on our urb did though was go direct to the builder & cut out the agent & got a good deal as agents get anything from 16-20% commission from the builder when one of their clients purchase. That's why you get subsidised trips & get taken out to great restaurants. The lack of sales pitch helps you feel comfortable about buying.
  They don't force you to use their own lawyers but obviously want you to as it's more money in their pocket.
