Belgium vs America

Hey,

I'm a belgian exchange student in america and I was wondering out of curiousity which one of those 2 countries is better to live in according to you

Definitely the US, with the exception of the Detroit area.

If you're from Leuven or Ghent or Brugge, I think Belgium is better. The US is really a patchwork quilt of good/bad depending on the city.

Worse thing: you absolutely have to have a car in the US (not New York City). They're against public transport because the rich cats can't reap oil money from a system like it is here in Belgium where you can go by train pretty much anywhere. I love Austin, TX, and some places like that - Portland or Eugene, Oregon.

I think the quality of life is better here in Belgium in a lot of ways.

Personally, I prefer Belgium (meaning Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels South and West, and certainly not "Charleroi-sur-Crime" or dirty Liège...) and Continental Europe in general over the U.S., even though I was born and raised on the other side of the Atlantic.

Here are some of the things that really irritated me when I was in the U.S. (Boston, NYC and Tampa FL) for a visit last summer:
(1) the noise-- average speaking volume is way too high for me. I had to buy earplugs.
(2) the lack of education and general knowledge (Belgium? Where's that?)
(3) bad manners
(4) slobby way of dressing
(5) the TV is always trying to sell you something
(6) too much focus on money and getting ahead
(7) unsophisticated tastes
(8) false cheer (have a nice day!)
(9) excessive friendliness of service personnel => invasive

Huh??? So you'd be willing to live in NYC's outer boroughs (Harlem, the Bronx...), L.A. South Central, the Bible Belt, the Rust Belt, survivalist states like Montana and Wyoming... need I go on? As far as I'm concerned, the only inhabitable places in the U.S. are along the eastern seaboard (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Miami...), Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland OR. The rest is essentially hick country, a cultural wasteland of shopping malls, cineplexes and convenience stores. No thanks!

Right on, db, but I wouldn't willingly choose LA, DC, possibly Chicago. I would substitute San Diego or Seattle. Whatcha think? You're really right - the rest is manure.

What's the point comparing the two countries ? The US is 321 times bigger than Belgium. It's already difficult to say whicg city is better to live inside Belgium, so compare them to the whole USA...

As a Belgian who lived in the US , I would recommend Belgium anytime ... for just one single word which will apply to you and your family ... Healthcare ... Not because Belgian Healthcare is the best (yes we know best Healthcare is in the US ... for a cost). But because the quality is very good and for the most part , free (yes there is a cost but it's ridiculously small compared to the US). And if you're in the US , while there is "better healthcare" available, you won't have access to it anyway because it's ridiculously expensive.

Dumblonde, your obviously an angry person trying to get a rise out of nice people by posting this recycled post world war 2 list of what europeans have listed on what they hate on America, funny I have seen the same list your wrote about a million times so where dumblonde did you make such an effort to cut n paste this garbadge? I gather your much too much better and above 300 million people to actually get to know one. Honey u need 2 get off your high horse and get some heart and soul because you my dear have none!

If you love multi culture and mult food choices and a variety of beautiful people from all kinds of blood lines and nationalites and everything from around the world in one city you will love the USA, If you want to go on vacation and enjoy another culture and look at history and then take a plane home and kiss the ground, you will love the USA. If you love working and want to be anything you want and you can go to school and be anything you want at any age, you will love the USA.

If you want to live in a village with a predomenantly white race and stare down anyone who doesn't come from your village and have a bunch of kids from 3 different men and gossip with all the village women and food shop with your recycled old bag with your bike everyday cause the food in European supermarkets rot after 2 days so you have to shop daily, and if you love buying goods that you can buy in the USA but are 3-4x the cost higher than in the USA, you will love Europe.

Sorry the Difference between Belgium/Holland/Europe, your admired if your just like them and in the USA your admired when your an individual

well as personally I don't know which one is best between Belgium or America but as well all know America is world most strongest country so due to this strong point of america! my vote goest to "America"
