2) It is true that NOS Journaal is produced under the hood of NPS, which is the central cupola for all "zendgemachtigden" in the Swamp. However, one might not conclude that Dutch government is spoonfeeding the media unlike the UK, where the BBC is directly depending from the government. In the Swamp exists the unique system by which anybody succeeding in having at least 50,000 (subscribing) members gets broadcasting time. This explains why the Dutch have AVRO, NCRV, KRO, VPRO, VARA, etc., each with their own politics and, more importantly, with their own POLITICAL COMMENTS and INTERVIEWS, like Netwerk, Nova, Paul & Witteman, etc.
Btw, RTL being a commercal business located in Luxembourg, is of course totally independent from the Dutch government! It has its own News and Political Comments.
3) It is absolutely NOT TRUE that NOS and RTL are using the same studio, same format, etc. The day you watched both, they may have, by coincidence, used the same clips, probably because no other ones were available. However, if you watch both regularly, as an example at 7.30 pm RTL and at 8 pm NOS, you'll see a lot of differences, not only as far as the comments are concerned, but also the choice of stories and the shots.
I don't understand your Dutchie seems to agree with you. I suppose he didn't really compare.
4) Before accusing Dutch government of potentially manipulating the News, which is ridiculous in itself, one should inform itself. All sources are available everywhere.
For once in my life I'll admit defeat on parts of this post. I stated my impressions as fact, when indeed they are not facts, just my opinion.
As for your reply:
No.1 Yes they have been around along time. But, when you have no competition, that is not hard to do.
2). Setting RTL aside - because I am clearly wrong on this. However my point with NOS is not. I realize that the government is not spoonfeeding the media - I clearly stated that I do not believe they are - but if the government wanted to manipulate information, I perceive this as being a likely avenue because of its association with NOS. I assume that most people are like me
and want the roundup of events across the nation and around the world in 30 minutes. This is where I would tune in for the news. As for the other political commentary shows - they are absolutely necesesary, and I would be afraid if they were not here.
3) Tuchet again - I obviously do not know what I am talking about. However, the sets look identical from the news desk to the incredibly cheezy weather graphics. What I should have said was how much alike they sets look, almost is if they were the same sets!
4) I never, and I made a point of stating that, I never said the Dutch gov't was feeding the media. However with the relationship the gov't has with a MAJOR outlet for news, it is not inconceivable.
As for the comment on technically obsolete, well the term might be harsh and not fit per definition, the news productions is really very low-tech. I understand better that is a cause and effect result. Because there is no competition, aside from providing information in a neat clean organized matter, there is no need to invest in a set or technology that might give your station a 'one up' on the competition and enhance the viewers experience..
"But why would we do that?" the Dutch would ask. I would say "Because you can".
...and as for my Dutchie, I did not elaborate on this in my first post. Emillio416, he agrees with you, not me.
So, after I get over the the embaresment of this thread, I'll go back to talking about the simple stuff like Beer again.
After all these years here, I figured the weather is the main news subject… not so much is happening here, for good and bad …
