  I know it is not even remotely comparable to Uganda, but how is it in the UK when it comes to homosexuality? Yesterday I read an article about gays in the UK wanting to marry. Then on DM I read this article, and especially the comments and how they are rated seem very strange to me for a western country: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13...rry-church.html
  Also I had once a gay English friend, and he had to hide his sexual orientation at his workplace. And the only time someone told me he had a problem with my homosexuality was also a Brit, a colleague, very nice chap, but he couldn't handle a gay man.

  My son visited his friends in Manchester, London and Liverpool a few times. He had no problems, and would like to move there one day.

  Well, not having lived there for sometime, I can't really say personally, but I'm told that things have got better than what it was when I lived there. I remember when I was much younger hearing of gay people being beaten up as they left the night clubs and in some cases even stabbed to death. And even in later years there was gay people cruising in the parks being very badly attacked or beaten to death with items like baseball bats and such like. To be honest, living in the UK as a gay man was no where near as good as it has been here, as far as I'm concerned. I don't know, I just didn't feel comfortable/good being gay there as much as I do here, but it certainly got better over the years in the UK but felt I'd be dead before it was anywhere near as good as it should be.
  
  My partner and me went to Jersey (Channel Islands) in October 2007. We went out for the day on a short boat trip and I got chatting to some other adults. There was me thinking I could be myself, I made the clearly unfortunate mistake of introducing my 'partner'. There was this sudden silence that followed, until one of them asked where he came from. After that, they cut me off. Horrible ignorant people...
  
  Just had a look at the link and you're right, the rating does seem a bit strange, as you say for a western country but that's people for you. It's one thing to your face and once your back is turned something sharp and nasty. Personally, I'd never ever want to be married in a church, bearing in mind the whole set up has such ignorant old fashioned ideas. I tend to despise organised religion but if I were to be put somewhere, it'd be amongst the Buddhists and the Spiritualists.
  
  There are many that probably feel they have to hide there sexuality, not just in the UK but here also I know of them, especially amongst the Islam followers who probably have to go through a miserable time putting on a front to their families. Many express themselves as straight going on to marry but do the un-decent thing behind their girlfriends/wives back. Since moving here an ex work colleague is in touch with me telling me all his tit bits. Made me feel kinda jealous actually! Though with him, doesn't matter if it's a man or woman, if he feels an opportunity coming, he'll take it. He has a wife and son. Yes, I know of many married/unmarried men that feel that they don't get enough satisfaction in the bedroom department with their wives and feel that the only outlet is to go cruising in the hope other men who are far from choosy will do something for them. Strange really when they could be just as equally doing it with another woman. May be it's less complicated...
  
  Oh, while in the changing rooms of the fitness gym I occasionally go to in Amsterdam, three, obviously English, men came in, two young lads and one older man. As I was changing, I heard one of the young lads mutter something about having to be careful as there were lots of gays in Amsterdam and as I looked up, I heard him continue saying, "There's one!" Bloody cheek, I'm not that obvious, I wasn't even wearing any high heels! On reflection, I wish I'd stood up to him saying, "One what?!" Then punched him in the face... I hate these types of people, though on the other hand, they were actually quite good looking.
  Believe it or not pepe C, there are actually Dutch men that are unable to handle, so to speak, a gay man, just that here, gay men are accepted far much more than they are in UK. It is interesting though, the hypocrisy that one finds when it comes to gay matters. Generally, the people that have a problem with it are the people that have a problem with their own sexuality, which is such a shame as they could be missing out on so much fun...
  There was a story of a young man living on the south coast (UK) who was very violent towards gays. There was a programme about it on TV some years back, was very interesting, as later in life, he finally accepted that the problem was no one else but himself. I saw him in a gay bar in Brighton and recognised him and we chatted a while. Nice bloke really but he used to be a very nasty aggressive violent person.

  Perhaps the best retort I've every read about was many years ago when thousands of same-sex couples were in Washiington, DC, for a LGBT civil rights rally.

   

  An airplane had landed at Reagan National, and well over half the people exiting were ******, arriving for the rally.

   

  A few teenagers, waiting to board their flight, saw all the **** arriving, and one of them made a derogatory comment about all the "***."

   

  One elderly gentleman exiting the plane stopped, turned to the kid and said, "That's Mr. ****** to you, son," and then kept on walking.

   

  Nearly everyone broke out in laughter and applause, and the kid was rightfully humiliated.
