  hi girls! im coming to holland this august for doing my master's course and its shopping time!!
  
  Everyone is confusing me about what to take to holland so i thought il ask the girls who live there -
  
  so far, iv decided to bring -
  
  - multiple pairs of jeans
  - multiple pairs of corduroy pants and linen/light wool pants
  - one smart comfortable corduroy coat that reaches my knee
  - one windcheater cum rain coat
  - one medium weight white sweater
  
  what shirts do i bring? Linen formal ones? Woollen ones? Light t-shirts like the ones we wear in india/usa ??
  
  do i need more jackets/sweaters? is it necessary to carry a light weight sweater for summer wear? anything else like gloves or something?
  
  please help! il be in holland for two years

  There's no enforced dress code for the Netherlands
  
  Light-weight sweaters and long-sleeved shirts are good for the summer, doesn't usually go below freezing in the winter.
  
  Bring an umbrella though

  I came to the Netherlands in March with just a large hiking-style backpack so I had to pack very carefully...unfortunately I made the assumption that it would be absolutely freezing at that time of year!
  
  I'm from Tasmania, Australia, so I'm used to low, chilly winter temperatures. I came armed with several jackets including a heavy knee-length woollen coat..and only wore it twice! Obviously it depends on where you are, but I find it quite humid compared to what I was used to, so even when its only 13 degrees celcius outside, it feels a lot warmer.
  
  If you are 'vertically challenged' like me (I'm 5'3) and you aren't fond of having to have every pair of pants you buy taken up, definitely bring lots of jeans/pants with you. It's taken me four months to find somewhere that has jeans in an almost acceptable length, and work pants, I just have to take them up, no alternative that I can find.
  
  I've found that woolly jumpers, for me, weren't worth carting halfway around the world...even now in July I can find them readily in shops.
  
  A rain coat is a bonus, I had one I'd bought several years ago in Australia, I'd maybe worn it once or twice over those years, but it's definitely been of use here, especially if you are a bit stubborn like me and hate carrying around a soggy wet umbrella!
  
  Most other things are easy to find here, be sure to bring things that you know you'll be happy wearing over and over again, especially if you are going to be living on a small budget, because although there are some cheap places to shop here, I've found it very expensive compared to what I'm used to.
