We live in a four-story house in the Jordaan. Even before we moved in six years ago, there's been a long history of problems with the woman and her family on the top two floors. Unlike the rest of the flats in the house, she rents (her father owned the whole house and sold it on the condition she would occupy the top two floors...and pay only a few hundred euros in rent).
There is a long documented history of problems, suspected drug dealing, random people stomping up and down the stairs at all hours of the night, kicking in the front door, throwing a TV down four-flights of stairs, throwing used condoms off the balcony (this was last summer). The woman (not even still sure she actually lives here) has two teenage daughters and there seems to be a never ending parade of "tenants" living there.
We have complained to the owners many times (there's now a new owner), even gone to court (the previous owners would also like to evict).
Last night, the unstable and psychotic boyfriend went crazy and started smashing a heavy wood ladder down the stairs (no idea who the fight was with because the woman wasn't even home), against our door in the early hours of the morning. I was terrified for our safety, thinking he was going to come through our door.
This is now a 20 year long documented history of problems. We've already gone to court once, is there any other options that we have to get rid of this neighbour and her violent boyfriend?
Difficult situation. Very often neighbors from hell operate just within the borders of what is punishable by law and what isn't. It is not that easy to evict people from their home. I can only advize to keep documenting everything. Let your other neighbors do the same en keep calling the police.
