Folks
I have got an offer for a IT job in Hoofddorp. The pay offered is 65000 Euros. Apart from the compensation, I am told the benefits include...20 days of paid holidays/vacation per annum, health insurance and that this pay is subject to the 30% tax ruling.
I am currently based in San Francisco, California. I am wondering if it makes sense to move to Netherlands for this job at this pay.
I am assuming that the net pay will be approximately 3800 Euros/month. I will be moving with my wife and no kids yet.
Can you guys validate if the net pay calculation is accurate? Further, what are the expenses (most likely averages) for things like 1BHK rental, utilities (phone/gas/electric/water/sewage), transportation, groceries/food etc. We arent much of a restaurant buffs and prefer to cook at home.
Request your folks help before I make a decision to move/not move.

I think your pay is quite good considering you are couple no kids. You probably will get more than 3800 Eur/month (net).
Room rent varies try using funda.nl to get an idea abt cost of living in Hoofddorp, but my guess is it will cost you approximately 1000+ eur for fully furnished house. Also I think there will not be issue for you to find some expat living in Hoofddorp.
Utilities are normally included in the rent but if you pay separately then its not much, will cost you around 200 Eur max.
Language will be barrier in social circle but meeting expat is not hard in NL there are many meetup groups etc for that, but while dealing with dutch customer service etc they straightaway refuse to speak english (occasionally). So, you have to consider all this, including job for your partner if she is non-IT then it will be hard for her to get a job but not impossible.
Hope it helps.

But you need to understand that culturally it's extremely different to where you are now: if you know this and your wife is also happy to be stuck at home (unemployment for non-dutch speakers is very high) then it's fine. But as a 'career move', it's unlikely to be a huge + if you're looking for big money or rapid career advancement.
True that.
