Hi,
I have a quick question - it is possible that I might soon need to claim unemployment benefits for certain amount of time, but I keep on getting the mixed information on the duration of the benefits.
I have worked in NL for 2 years now, but previously have additional 6 year history in the EU, altogether 8 years. Does that mean that I could theoretically get 3 months benefits or 8 months?
I would be grateful for pointing me to some more legitimate source of information as well - my dutch is not good enough for it.
Thanks,
B.

Your 6 year history working in the EU does not mean anything. There is no country called ´The EU´ for which you are paying into their unemplyment system.:( So you only have the 2 years that you have paid into the Dutch system. I am sure you will get the 3 months pay from the Bijstand ... but other than that you need to hire a lawyer to help you figure out what you are due.
Bijstand is welfare not unemployment, unemployment is first and bijstand is something to avoid
