Hey, I had no idea where to post this, so I thought I would go for the British section! lol I am originally from Yorkshire and have moved to The Netherlands with my husband, a Dutchman, and our daughter. I was ok for the first few months but I kind of feel a little lonely and abit of billy no mates lol, I have no idea how to make friends for starters! But I guess I could try here?
xx
Best to not bother with Dutch people, most are not friendly (except superficially) to foreigners. So look for expats, and hopefully this site could be a start, or search for other English speaking activities where you'd meet people. Dutch classes are good for that I've found. At least there are no Dutchies on them!
I feel the need to add a small change to this

With time, and with an open heart, you can find Dutch friends, but I have to be honest - in my experience, you WILL befriend Dutch people who have also moved away from their 'family seat'/kring. But there are lots of them - and they are (secretly) lonely too.
Perhaps something people don't appreciate until they are here is that.. you need to communicate in the language you speak from birth. I'm from Lancashire, so for a Yorkshire lass, than might be stretching it
.
There are lists of expat groups somewhere on Expatica, but should this not come up trumps for you, you might have more luck if you check out the 'girls only' forum as there as hundreds of English-speakers in the same position (and lots of them post there). Especially 'moms' (or mums as we call them).
