Yesterday I got a call from the pet ambulance people to say they had picked up my cat from a place about 1km from my house (it is chipped) and they would bring it back to me and charge 35euro for the privilege. Is this legal? I did not ask them to pick up my pet. It was not lost, it had been home 5 house before and I expected it home that evening when it got hungry.
Do I really need to pay the 35euro?
Consider it a donation to charity. Today my *house*cat went missing at some point - after consoling crying children (and walking many milse myself) I'd have given 10 times that just to have found her. Luckily she returned at midnight, covered in some black stuff which had to be remove before she licked herself clean! Just remember that these people returned your cat safe, but equally, they could have scraped him/her off the road in different circumstances. If I was you (and I know, I'm not) I would pay it, thank them, but ask them to leave himher to roam in future as he/she is tagged and collared and is normally out during the day. They aren't mindreaders and were probably just responding to a call from a concerned member of the public - bu they still have to pay for the gas/maintenence of their ambulance!
