Corn Syrup

Dear Expaticans, I am trying to set my holiday menu and I might need Light Corn Syrup. I have heard of a thing called golden syrup that exists here in NL and is a substitute. Anyone knows what it is and where it can be found?
Any chances of finding Honey BBQ sauce here?

Have never seen Honey BBQ sauce here (good BBQ sauce can be a bit of a pain to get, but the Mississippi BBQ sauce from Sligro is the best I've found).

I've seen golden syrup in Albert Heijn, it's made by Lyle's and looks like this:

It was next to the other Dutch syrups and chocolate paste and stuff.

Do you have any chance to visit a Hanos or Sligro? Maybe you know someone with a card. In my horeca days I worked with lots of stuff that is not easily available in supermarkets.

Yes, Makro is also wholesale. Not as good as Hanos or Sligro. Best wholesale is ISPC. But in general, products that are difficult to find at a normal supermarket are sold in every wholesale shop.

i've seen golden syrup at tokos. check there if you see one.

I've never seen corn syrup sold at the Makro and that's where I go for a lot of international stuff.

The american food store in utrecht does sell it, but its expensive and usually sold out by now.

I've never tried the golden syrup, I usually make simple syrup for my recipes like peanut brittle or whatnot. Works OK.

Im looking into making a Pecan Pie. It calls for light corn syrup...would you mind sharing your recipe with me?

This is the one I use. For simple syrup, google it and you'll find all sorts of hits. If you use the recipe above, make sure not to go beyond boiling because you'll go into softball stage pretty quick meaning, it'll be gummy when it cools instead of syrup.

Another substitute for light corn syrup I know of is honey, so you might google that and see what the substitution would be. That might be tasty in a pecan pie!

FYI, I found light corn syrup at one of the Tokos in almere for 5 euro a bottle. Not too bad.
