  I have a small query
  
  Im trying to open an HDFC NRI acc, and the bank asked to send a cheque/DD of worth of INR 10000 or above in EUR, but my local bank in NL which is ABN AMRO dont hve a cheque book...
  
  wat is the best way to SEND HDFC d money for me to open an NRI ac with HDFC..?? i cnt send them a DD or cheque as ABN AMRO dont provide (i assume )

  You can fill the forms and send it to HDFC and when they open your account and give u account no. You can wire transfer the money. Or you can make bank draft from Abn amro which takes 5 days and send with the form.

  Hi,

   

  Found this topic to be the only one in the entire forum on NRE/NRI account and DD/cheque requirement.

  I am in touch with HDFC bank to open an NRE account, however, they require a DD / cheque of minimum Rs. 10,000 to be accompanied with the form.

   

  ABN AMRO when contacted had no clue what a Demand draft is, also they said a cheque cannot be issued to someone outside NL.

   

  Has anyone of you opened an NRE/NRO account from here, and if so, can you please share your experience w.r.t account opening DD/cheque requirement fulfillment? Pls help!!

  Hello Kam25, you can open account with HDFC bank with out giving them draft. Ask them that I will transfer moneyonce account is opened. Also mention that here we have Accept Giro not cheque , will you accept that ? So just show them that it is not possible to get cheque.
  I think if you wil go for cheque , you will bve charged some euro's.
  In worst case open NRO account , there you can give cheque of any indian bank then ask them to open NRE account.
  
  I do not think they are so bad that they will not iopen NRE with out cheque.
  
  You can also try other nanks such as SBI or AXIS or ICICI bank.
  
  I think if you are going to india then it will be easy.

  Hi, as others said, you can open NRE account without having to send a cheque/draft. Fill up the forms and send to HDFC. Once they opened an account and you have the account number, you may use 'QuickTransfer' option available at HDFC bank website to wire transfer fund from your ABN Amro account in the Netherlands to your NRE HDFC account in India. Wire transfer details are available once you register for QuickTransfer @ HDFC website. Hope above info helps. Goodluck!

  Just as you have mentioned, I was able to open an NRE account without initial payment.
  I was asked to fill in an extra form (for requesting zero initial payment).
