Barker College is a K-12 school of around 2500 students situated in the northern suburbs of Sydney. The school operates one of the largest school music programs in Australia with students having access to a vast range of co-curricular opportunities. Every year sees major performances, including collaborations with leading ensembles in major concert halls and regional touring. Barker also has a strong tradition in music theatre, mounting a full production each year.

Ensembles from Barker have toured the world, with the last decade seeing performances in places as diverse as Prague, Vienna, London, Paris, Beijing, New York, Washington DC Istanbul and Havana.

Barker’s 2017 tour group comprises a chamber strings ensemble and choir, the membership of which is drawn predominantly from the senior school chamber orchestra and senior choir. Many of the students are dual vocalists/instrumentalists and multi instrumentalists at that. Most, but not all, take music as an elective subject, but all perform with enjoyment and professionalism. The oldest members of the touring party have completed their schooling in 2017 and thus the tour marks the final chapter of their Barker school years.

The school has a global vision, and takes seriously its responsibilities as an international ambassador for the nation. As such, tour repertoire will include several new works by Australian composers, as well as representative seasonal repertoire from modern Australia to Baroque Mexico.

Barker College is heavily invested in reconciliation with and educational advancement of our first nation people. We acknowledge the Guringai and Darkinjung people, on whose land Barker stands, and whose wisdom we value greatly.
