Béjart, 10 years already

Event Details

  • In 1960, the dancer signed a temporary contract with La Monnaie that soon became a contract over several years and led to the birth of the Ballet of the 20th Century in 1960. Maurice Béjart travelled around the world with the ballet and introduced many people to modern dance. He used to say that dance was better than any of the other arts and could deliver us the essence of legends. Each year, Béjart increased the number of creations, from four to about six per season. They include some great masterpieces, such as Bolero, Romeo and Juliet, Heliogabalus, the 9th Symphony, Nijinsky, Mon Faust, Seven Greek Dances, Bakhti and the Sacre du printemps which, to date, remains his most famous choreography.

In total, no fewer than 20 creations will be presented in various formats: manuscripts, programmes, photographs, videos, films, press releases. The "Béjart-Brussels" exhibition will run until 30 December, every day, except on Monday, from 2 pm to 6 pm.
