FREE CONCERT: Lincolnshire Youth Symphony Orchestra

Event Details

  • Lincolnshire Youth Symphony Orchestra

The orchestra’s first season occurred in 1974/1975 and its founder conductor was Geoffrey Timmins, Music Inspector for Lincolnshire Local Education Authority.  He directed the orchestra for 16 years before Wynne Harries, the next conductor, took over for the 1991/92 season. Nigel Morley took over from Wynne in September 2007.  Other members of the teaching staff of the Service tutor the different sections at Saturday rehearsals and weekend courses.  Entry to the orchestra is by annual audition and members come from all areas of the county.   The age of members ranges from 12 to 19.

The Music Service also organises the Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Youth Concert Orchestra,  eight area music centres (including bands, orchestras, recorder ensembles, choirs etc.) and a programme of teaching in schools throughout the county.

The orchestra has over the year's undertaken successful tours to France, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany and Italy playing to enthusiastic audiences. The Orchestra has a wide repertoire spanning three centuries of music and are delighted to be able to perform for you today and hope that you enjoy our programme.
