I have been appalled at the reaction on Facebook to the proposal that the USA ban guns. Banning guns is the ONLY solution along with EDUCATION.
Did you know that 87% of criminals incarcerated for violent crime come from the lesser-educated classes ?
The combination of easy access to guns and lack of education makes for a very dangerous situation.
Now, I can hear you all screaming “but the boy who did the cinema shooting was very brainy!” Yes. True. But it is that very exception that proves the rule. He was very brainy but had got some kind of mental disorder, as indeed had the Norwegian killer. But most back-street violent killings, most robberies involving murder and most senseless street stabbings/shootings occur among the lesser-educated classes.
They also occur largely in third-world countries. That in itself should tell you something.
Just the way a child has to be taught that thumping another child in the playground is not the solution to their game, so people lacking in the basic social skills needed to get through life need to be taught how not to handle situations that they perceive to be problematic.
One person on Facebook said “it is too late for the USA – everybody has a gun” – what rubbish! Thank goodness our forefathers didn’t say it was too late to ban witch-hunting or trial-by-fire. Of course it is not too late. Everything has to start somewhere.
